Task One

Part A

A foreign TV team wants to come for two days to make a short programme about the Polish peacekeeping mission. You have been tasked with organising their visit. Write a letter 1) informing them about your commander’s approval of their arrival, 2) establishing the details of their visit and 3) asking about their suggestions. Use the notes below and write between 100 and 120 words. Remember not to copy the exact phrasing of the task instructions or input! Otherwise, you will be penalised.

ARRIVAL – when? how many people?
ACCOMMODATION  a tent at the base – OK?
THINGS TO FILM – training with local troops, work at a checkpoint
– interview with the commander, if not possible, with the deputy commander – OK?

Part B

You have received a reply from the head of the foreign TV team with their suggestions. Write a memo to your CO 1) describing one more point added to the programme of the visit and 2) informing him about the security measures that should be taken for the guests’ safety. Write between 60 and 80 words. Remember not to copy the exact phrasing of the task instructions or input! Otherwise, you will be penalised.

Task Two

A military agency is preparing a report on safety of soldiers participating in military exercises. You were asked to contribute. Use the recent accident of a Polish soldier as an example to outline the problem of personal safety during military exercises. Write a report 1) describing the accident and its causes, 2) analyzing reasons for other accidents which happen during military exercises and 3) suggesting ways of improving the situation. Write between 200 -250 words. Remember not to copy the exact phrasing of the task instructions and input! Otherwise, you will be penalised.
